Oral aspects and dental management of Werner Syndrome
Doi: 10.4483/JDOH_007Fernandes04
Abstract Werner syndrome (WS) is a rare autosomal recessive progeroid disorder associated with premature ageing. Individuals with WS have characteristics of ageing such as cataracts, greying hair, scleroderma-like skin atrophy and loss of hair. Oral manifestations in individuals with WS have rarely been studied. A 41-year-old female with WS and showing many characteristics of ageing was referred to the Special Care Dentistry Center with complaints of masticatory difficulty, lack of aesthetics, xerostomia and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder. Oral examination revealed multiple dental caries, periodontal disease, missing teeth and microstomia. The aim of this case report is to discuss the oral aspects and clinical management of individuals with WS.
