UK Disabled Peoples’ Parliament Project and Business Plan
Comic Relief granted the British Council of Disabled People (BCODP) a sum of £24,000 to produce a business plan for the UK Disabled Peoples’ Parliament project. A consultant was employed to do this and a professional piece of market research was carried out to find out what disabled people outside the movement think about how their views should be represented at a national level, and their specific views on this project. A steering group to oversee this work was made up of members of BCODP who understand the movement, and also representative of various parts of the community who tend to be left out and who need to be included in any genuinely inclusive Parliament. For further information, visit the BCODP website www.bcodp.org.uk

All Wales Special Interest Group (AWSIG): News update July 2004
AWSIG provided a workshop at the first international ASD Conference on Wales in May. A summary of the workshop can be downloaded via the bilingual website (www.autismcymr u.org). This is a very useful website with some excellent links. The group hope to contribute to the Welsh National Service Framework for people with ASD which is currently being developed. The Welsh Assembly Government has commissioned New Idiem to carry out a review of the Community Dental Service (CDS) in Wales. The consortium will attend the next committee meeting in order to highlight the importance of the CDS role in delivering special care dental services in Wales. The development of Extended Clinical Attachments in Special Care Dentistry for clinicians in Wales is being initiated by Dr Eric Nash, Director of Dental Postgraduate Education for Wales. The aim is to provide specialised training in Special Care Dentistry and to encourage postgraduate qualifications in the field. Janet Griffiths Chair All Wales Special Interest Group
