Systematic Review: Effects of oral hygiene on respiratory health of tube-fed children with swallowing difficulties

Abstract
Children with neurodevelopmental problems such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy often have
gastrointestinal comorbidity that may require gastrostomy (GT) for feeding. Despite many benefits, there are risks
associated with GT-feeding with poor oral hygiene possibly predisposing to a higher incidence of aspirational
pneumonia (AP).
