A questionnaire study to consider the relationship between dental anxiety and oral health related quality of life in patients referred for dental treatment under conscious sedation

Abstract

Aim: To identify the relationship between dental anxiety and oral health related quality of life and gather patient views on dental anxiety management options.

Method: Participants were recruited using an opportunity sample of adult patients referred to the Newcastle Dental
Hospital Sedation Department (NDHSD) between January and March 2018. Questionnaires were used to assess
patients’ level of dental anxiety, oral health related quality of life and their interest in the use of non-pharmacological
anxiety management options.
