The provision of dental care and the value of conscious sedation with midazolam for adults with profound complex neuro-disability

Abstract
Aim: To describe the challenges involved in assessment, treatment planning and the provision of dental care for people with profound complex neuro-disabilities Objective: To address the nature of the challenges and how they can be managed.
Methodology: The work is carried out at The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) in London, a centre for rehabilitation and continuing care of adults with neuro-disability. The hospital facilities include an on-site dental clinic for the care of in-patients. Difficulties in examining and assessing patients who are completely non-compliant
present a professional dilemma.
