Integrating domiciliary and hospital based special care dental services to provide patient-centred care under sedation and general anaesthesia

Abstract
Background: Adults with complex needs and disabilities can face barriers to accessing hospital-based care for many reasons, resulting in delays in treatment and poorer overall patient experience. Although local referral pathways are often established for urgent sedation and general anaesthetic (GA) dental services, barriers may exist in preparing patients for hospital attendance for patients with additional needs. For this reason; integrating community dental care, domiciliary services and hospital based special care anaesthesia services allows patientcentred planning and reasonable adjustments.
